1. gardening is HARD work. also, i’m back on track!

last week i took it pretty easy.  the knee needed rest and i have too much i want to accomplish this summer to mess with injury so i figure heal it up and move on. then saturday we spent the day in the garden and wow i’m sore.  it’s amazing what kinds of things can wipe you out. i’m tired of being sore! i can’t wait to get back into a routine.

yesterday i ran the capitol hill classic. against my better judgement. i knew it was a bad idea, but i did it anyway. well, the stars must have been aligned bc my knee felt totally fine. and it still does. very little stiffness left and its just that, stiffness. so, i’m going to keep icing and stretching it, but stop worrying about it. the run felt SO GOOD. it was amazing to get back out there.

my garmin died about 4 steps in. i guess i never charged it after the 100 MoN.  i was bummed bc i really wanted to make sure i was not running too hard my first time out in a few weeks. you know how it can get in a ‘race’ situation too…you end up running harder just by pure circumstance. i tried really hard to just listen to my legs though and try to remember what it feels like to run at specific paces. at the same time, i’m really trying to correct poor form that has been my habit for so long. i was pleased to find at various splits that i was keeping the pace i was aiming for. the garmin has really taught me how to read my body and pace.  pretty neat-o.

i didn’t race it so much as just run through it at as consistent a pace as possible. and feel good at the end. i had enough in the tank to run the last .5 miles HARD. normally i’d wish i had paced myself correctly that there wasn’t and extra boost in the end, but it was FUN to burn up all that was left in that extra blast of energy.

but what it also did, was tell me i am healthy and it gave me a good place to start for to get back on a formal training plan for the philly ride and the oly tri.  plus, for my own amusement, i’m going to start working on foot strength in the vibrams.

    life is good.

goals: run a consistent pace, not super fast, pain free, in under 1 hr.
results: i have no idea what my time was (not posted yet), but according to the folks yelling times out at the mile markers, i was running even splits at a pace i was happy with (about 9 min miles). my knee didn’t hurt AT ALL. and i crossed in under an hour.
