today i set out to run without an agenda. i just wanted to run to a certain point, turn around and run back and enjoy being back out there. it was drizzly out and not too too cold. i even (gasp!) put my headphones on (they were REALLY low!) despite the darkness. it felt good!
it was a new(ish) route too, which honestly, is 100% refreshing. harmony, in light of one of your recent posts, i want to suggest you get out of the park for a run. even a shorty. just try a new route and you might fell a renewed sense of desire to get out again the next time. i think the head phones helped distract me too.
boy-o-boy is it clear i have not been pounding pavement for the past few weeks! my legs are like jell-o! but sometimes that feeling is a good feeling. tonight is for sure one of those times.
i was shocked to see my splits! sometimes when i try hard to hit a pace, i am so tired. today i was faster than my goal (which is not such a great thing necessarily) but didn’t feel like i had to try to hard to get there. i mean, i was running hard so in that sense i was definitely trying hard. my lungs were actually killing me in a way i hadn’t felt since the heat of the summer, but i find myself racing my watch so often. and that can be hard work. draining work. i do wish the times were more consistent, but i’m pretty satisfied and i feel great.
now, the trick will be not to do any more high impact cardio until saturday’s long run. my ankle will thank me.
