i had three great gym workouts this week, including a 5k on the dreadmill that wasn’t so dreadful after all! in fact, it was awesome.
i was unexpectedly in town, meaning i had no plans friday night, or saturday morning for that matter. so i ended up at the gym for a long workout, without crowds!! it was glorious. i decided to see how i felt for a mile on the treadmill and if all went well, i’d go for my scheduled 11 miler in the morning. i felt great so i thought i’d see what 3 miles felt like, but promised myself that was it and i’d finish my cardio on the ET. 5k (27:30; 1.5 incline) and i got off, thrilled that it didn’t hurt at all, but scared that it was too soon. while i was pumping iron, i ran into trainer ben and agreed to meet up with him tomorrow for a workout. with the added workout, i figured 11 milers was not necessary so i’d join the ladies for their 9 miler assuming the ankle was good to go. i went home, iced and hit the sack. in the morning, i was fine!
i’m still wary, but i’m excited to be cautiously getting back into it (okay, so there is nothing cautious about two tough workouts in one day, but i’m trying).
four people was intimidating for me, especially because i think we are four very different runners in terms of goals and pace, but it turned out to be super fun! i think it was in part due to how awesome we looked. clearly we are set with our team colors, but roosk mentioned the need for a team name and she’s right. so what’s it gunna be, ladies?!!
i particularly love this team photo because kado’s butt is the center of it. thanks, bud.
four people was also a lot of fun because it was super great to be able to chat with so many folks. we all just bopped around catching up and distracting each other.
i took this picture because i was so blown away at how little snow there was! just a few short (long?) weeks ago, we were trudging along this same path with snow up to our knees (for real, up to our KNEES!) and today, ohmygosh, today there was dry pavement (for me to makeout with).
it’s impossible not to acknowledge that it was a gorgeous day and for the most part we all felt pretty awesome. i can really only speak for myself, but even though i was nervous the whole time, my legs felt strong and i was so energized to be out on such a fabulous day! the snow is gone for the most part and i had no idea just how great that was going make me feel! spirits were soaring!
about halfway through, we stopped for a snack break and a quick stretch. man, what a beautiful day it was! and we even ran across the bridge to virginia real quick! the wind was pushing against us the whole way there and pushing us back to dc the whole way back (it was good to get back home).
now i’m resting up for workout later this afternoon with trainer ben!
