1. 6 in Snow

Holy Snowmageddon. Or snOMG or whatever catchy phrase you want to describe this massive storm. Since it was actually sunny out yesterday when I got home from work (I’ll resist the urge to rant about the fact that I had to work yesterday), I decided to do my 6 mile run outside figuring: a) I need a break from the dreadmill, b) this could be my only time running outside this week with the next storm headed our way, and c) i was up for a little adventure.

It was a big adventure. I headed downtown then hit Constitution and Independence Avenues, thinking the government was probably better about clearing sidewalks than private property owners. Which is true. Better, but still not great. I had to stop and walk quite a few times as there were simply patches of sheer ice on the sidewalks. I almost (gracefully) fell quite a few times. It was not pretty. Crossing every street was a hurdle with the piles of snow on either side.

And then there was Kado. Sometimes I think that dog was meant to be a sledding dog. He pulled me the entire time, never kept a good pace, and was hell bent on sniffing the snow as much as possible. I love that dog but he was not a good running partner today.

By about mile 4, I was just frustrated and wanted the run to end- it was taking so long, I didn’t have a good rhythm and I was so over the snow, ice, etc.

On the plus side, I finally have my continuous glucose monitor so I was able to know what my blood sugars were during the whole run. This was huge and I could pinpoint exactly when I need to give myself more sugar. An awesome addition to training for sure.

So, all that being said, it was a frustrating run. But, was it still better than the dreadmill? You bet.

Stats: 6.2 miles, 1 hr 22 minutes (holy crap) (includes breaks, walks on ice, etc.) So, maybe somewhere around 11 minute miles???
