Javier’s parents arrived for a five day visit on Saturday morning so Javier and I got our long 8 mile run in on Friday. Since it is almost certainly the longest I have ever run, I felt very accomplished at the end of it. That being said, there was none of the standard euphoric high I usually get after a run. I think it is because I’m still fighting off this cold and my body is rebelling against being out in the cold. The most amazing part of the run was that at no point did I really find myself getting winded. I feel so conditioned after this first month of training. What made the run hard was the pain in my hips and knees around mile 5.5 or 6. I’m hoping the yoga/strength training will help manage and help the pain over time. The rapid increase in distance is not really letting the rest of me catch up quite as steadily as I had hoped. Hopefully this week’s regimen of 4/5/4/10 will do a bit better on that front.
By contrast, Javier took Friday off from the Jillian workout and he felt amazing during and after the run. It makes sense. Monday and Tuesday he did the 45-minute Boost Metabolism workout and then ran 5 or 6 miles with me. Just running was a nice easy break. I have a feeling I’m going to be seeing much less of Jillian’s moves despite the band’s pact especially on days we are running. I promise to keep you posted.
Sunday’s short 3-miler was a bit of a trial. It was in the low 20s outside and we had spent most of Saturday drinking mimosas and wine with my soon to be in-laws. This is not good fuel for running and I felt very run down. Keeping that in mind, I stuck to two glasses of wine during the Superbowl and lots of water to be more ready for today’s run.
